Holiday Fun with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra!

If these photos from Sunday’s A Family Holiday Special don’t put you in the Holiday spirit, we’re not sure what will! Symphony hall sparkled and shined for the holidays this past Sunday as we danced along to The Nutcracker, explored new instruments, met some reindeer and elves, heard some wonderful holiday music, and of course, got to see Santa! Santa also brought his reindeer with him, which he left outside of Symphony Hall for children to meet.

If you didn’t get a chance to attend our Family Holiday Special over the weekend, we have more chances to catch the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Family Concerts this season! In March, the Orchestra will present Peter & the Wolf and Friends – a concert highlighting Sergei Prokofiev’s famous tale and much more! For more information about our Family Concert Series and for how to reserve tickets for this concert, click here. We hope to see you and your family at Symphony Hall very soon!

Music for the Very Young: Meet Our Families

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra invites your family to meet each member of the orchestral instrumental family. Music for the Very Young is a chamber music series for a target audience of children ages 3-5. Each show lasts about half an hour, allowing children to enjoy a fascinating program and parents to enjoy a morning or afternoon with their children. This program provides a fun and engaging cultural experience for the very young on their own terms while also enabling our young audience to engage in a quality musical experience designed with their cognitive development in mind.

This season, Music for the Very Young will be offering a series called Meet Our Families: An Introduction to the Instruments of the Orchestra. This series of performances will take you and your family on a journey to discover and learn all about members of the Woodwind, Brass, String, and Percussion families throughout the season in four separate programs – each highlighting one specific family of instruments. Then, at the end of the season, these same musicians will join forces to offer performances together as an ensemble…or as we like to think of it, one big family. You still have time to meet each family of instruments, before they’re combined into the whole extended family to perform in May!

The Bold Bright Brass starts their introduction in November. Two members of the Brass section from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will be performing in this brief introduction for your children! You can meet them on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 9:30am, 10:30am, or 11:30am, or on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, or 3:30pm.

You can also meet:

The Soothing Silky Strings – Saturday, December 3 at 9:30am, 10:30am, or 11:30am or Sunday, December 4 at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, or 3:30pm

The Precise Pounding Percussion – Saturday, January 7 at 9:30am, 10:30am, or 11:30am or Sunday, January 8 at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, or 3:30pm

The Whirly Windy Woodwinds – Saturday, January 21 at 9:30am, 10:30am, or 11:30am or Sunday, January 22 at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, or 3:30pm

For a full schedule, you can find out more here.

Sunday performances of Music for the Very Young happen alongside the Woodruff Arts Center’s family program, Create ATL Family Fun at the Woodruff. You can enjoy an afternoon exploring all of the engaging opportunities available for your family at the Woodruff Arts Center.
